The VPI Avenger is the foundation of VPI’s acclaimed “sandbox” turntable platform, combining a highly adaptable architecture with precision analogue engineering. Originally conceived by Harry Weisfeld more than a decade before its release, the design was revisited following the success of the Prime series and developed into one of VPI’s most distinctive high-end turntables. The Avenger serves as the base model in the range, pairing a JMW-12 3D tonearm with a belt-drive system engineered for accurate and stable vinyl playback.
The chassis is constructed from three bonded layers of acrylic, aluminium, and acrylic separated by damping material to reduce unwanted resonance. Three stainless-steel corner posts provide isolation, grounding, and support for up to three tonearms, while adjustable 6061 aluminium armboards accommodate a wide range of tonearm configurations. Combined with a dedicated motor assembly, inverted bearing system, and heavy aluminium platter, the Avenger provides a highly flexible platform with substantial upgrade potential.
